Eat Slower! At FIT Medical Weight Loss we understand that eating fast is sometimes a necessity, but it can potentially kill your weight loss efforts.

When you sit down for a meal, relax and take your time. Use your meal time as a special break to re-fuel and decompress a little. Many of us live such fast paced lifestyles that we rush through meals instead of really enjoying them.  The slower we eat the more we allow ourselves to listen to the signals our bodies are giving us.

It takes on average 20 minutes for our stomach to relay to the brain that we are full. Most of the time we are satiated long before we stop eating. Eating too fast causes us to eat too much food because we don’t know we are full, and this brings weight loss to a screeching halt. Eating slowly will naturally lead to eating fewer calories.

I always encourage people to take a break in their meals, sit back relax and don’t lean over your plate like a dog guarding its bowl

When you eat slowly you also allow for a much better start to the digestive process and you can get all of the nutrients out of the food you are consuming. Digestion starts in your mouth, it is good to make sure you adequately chew your food, just like mom used to say . The more you use your teeth and saliva to break down the food the less your stomach has to do and can lead to fewer digestive issues.

Taking your time during meals is important.  Have a very Happy & FIT Holiday Season, and check out a great recipe on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/fitmedicalweightloss
